Our young intruder arrives at the nest...and a couple of minutes later Belle arrives. I think he's better bring a fish and a box of chocolates next time...he might have better success!!

An Attempt at Mating

Belle arrives at the nest, and moments later the intruder arrives. He attempts to mate with her, but is not very successful. They move some fluff and sticks in the nest and then both depart.

Belle pays an evening visit to the nest....she didn't stay long or do very much, but it was nice to see her. The flyofff at the end is pretty.

Dinner Alone

Belle arrived alone at 5.27pm with a nice juicy fish. She waited about 5 minutes before digging in. She left at 5.47pm. Here's part of the visit.

Intruder Visit March 27 2011 5:16-5:19pm

The intruder visited three times today, early morning around 7am, mid-afternoon and evening. This is video of the mid-afternoon and evening visits. The intruder was alone in the nest all 3 visits. On the mid-afternoon visit, ground observers reported that Belle was above the nest, and when the intruder left, he flew above the nest and perched near Belle. A few minutes later they both departed and flew east. Liberty was not seen while the observers were there.

We have been discussing whether the intruder is a male or female. I originally thought it was a female, based upon the zoomed in cam view, and views from the ground. Now that the cam has been zoomed out, it appears the intruder is smaller than Belle in several videos that have been posted. Here is a comparison of Liberty and the intruder, perching on the same branch at different times on Sunday March 21. I thought the intruder was a female at first, but it looks to me like the intruder is a male as the two are very comparable in size. Thanks to Lori O for sending me the pictures for this comparison.

But around 11:30, both Belle and the intruder arrive in the nest...lots of cheeping, staring, and moving of stuff. The intruder finally leaves and Belle spends the night in the nest.

This is the feeding that we witnessed about 5:40pm on Saturday March 19. You have to watch the video very carefully to see the droplets that Belle shakes from her beak from time to time. And what eaglet video wouldn't be complete without a poop shoot! And here is the direct link if you want to watch it in full screen.
